tabanus sulcifrons

Is this really the message Christ wants us to be sharing?!

You have to attend this specific church.

You have to wear certain clothes.

You have to go to church twice every Sunday, even if the second service disrupts your children's nap schedule and makes your family miserable.

You have to obey your pastor and the elders, even when they're being unreasonable and power-hungry and greedy.

You have to marry only who we say you can marry.

You have to...
You have to...
You have to...

Check out the amazing stairwell illusion

Hi Leah,
After reading for sometime about your very public opinions of our church I'v struggled with whether or not to say something since they are becoming a little exaggerated.

"You have to attend this specific church":
We don't believe we are the one and only true church- we try to follow the bible in our way of worship - other churches do this as well. We even have guest ministers from other churches.

"You have to wear certain clothes":
We do not have a dress code people wear jeans to suits, dresses to pants. That being said in general people try to wear their "best", you are in God's house worshiping Him. You wouldn't wear sweats to a work dinner... that being said no one is going to tell you to leave if you show up in jeans

"You have to go to church twice every Sunday, even if the second service disrupts your children's nap schedule and makes your family miserable":
You have not attended our church when you had children so I'm not sure when you experienced this. We have children and often stay home with them because of napping or crankiness or sickness and it's OK. The pastor or elders have never said a word because most families do this - even their own.

"You have to obey your pastor and the elders, even when they're being unreasonable and power-hungry and greedy":
In every group their are people that abuse their power, mom's and dad's, teachers, pastors, elders, policemen, the mall security guard etc. It's unfortunate when this happens but when it's human sin. We have had this in our church and unfortunate that an elder you talked to acted on this but for the most part it doesn't happen. And one's actions shouldn't reflect everyone else's. We personally have had this happen and we talked to a different elder and it was sorted out.

"You have to marry only who we say you can marry":
I can assure you I have marries who I wanted to, and everyone else in our church that I now. There is no secret book with all the eligible bachelors and bachelorettes names lined and matched up. People even marry outside our church and it's OK! and they are welcomed! There is a young man who just started attending our church and he laughed and said he is so overwhelmed with the invites for coffee and dinners.
There are many people who join our church and feel very welcomed and accepted.

Did I say I was talking about your church? Did I use any church names in here? While my past experiences certainly do affect what I write, you might want to read my posts a little more carefully before assuming I'm talking about you and/or your church.

Sorry, just assumed, since in various previous posts with a church name mentioned these are somewhere in there, except for the children and napping part.
